Setting Up Your Bending Calculator
This article walks you through setting up your press brake bending calculator. (Fabrication shops only.)
Before you start
You'll need:
- Fabrication activated on your store. If you're not sure, your Stella Source Customer Support Rep can confirm.
- The Bending Calculator template. Request it from your Stella Source Customer Support Rep if you don't have it.
- Your bending cost data ready. Pull together your per-bend cost, machine setup cost, material loading cost, default tolerance, and operational lead time before you sit down with the template.
Fill out your Bending Calculator template
The template has three groups of fields. Fill them in top to bottom.
- Open the template your Stella Source Customer Support Rep sent you.
- In the Calculator Name cell, type what you want your customers to see on the chip. Pro-Tip: The text in Calculator Name becomes the chip label your customers see on the quote builder. If you type "Bend," they see BEND. If you type "Press Brake," they see PRESS BRAKE. Use whichever name your shop and customers recognize.
- Fill in the Overall Operation rows:
- LeadTime: the number of days this operation adds to a quote's lead time.
- Tolerance: the default tolerance value. Your customers can adjust this per part on their quote.
- Fill in the Ancillary Operation - Setup rows:
- Machine Setup Cost and Price: the one-time charge for setting up the press brake on a quote line. Cost is your internal cost. Price is what flows into your margin calculation.
- Material Loading Cost and Price: the one-time charge for loading material at the brake.
- Fill in the Operation Details rows:
- Bend Cost and Price: the per-bend variable rate. This multiplies by the bend count your customer enters when they request a quote.
- Save the file.
Send your template to your Stella Source Customer Support Rep
- Email your completed template to your Stella Source Customer Support Rep.
- Your rep loads the calculator into your store and confirms when it's live.
Verify your calculator is live
- Go to your quote builder.
- Open or start a quote and click UPLOAD A FILE.
- Look for the Available Secondary Operations section under the part details.
- Your Bending Calculator appears as a chip label "Pressbrake".
If you don't see your Press Brake, contact your Stella Source Customer Support Rep.
Troubleshooting
My calculator isn't appearing on the quote builder. Your store may not have fabrication activated yet, or your rep hasn't finished loading the calculator. Contact your Stella Source Customer Support Rep to confirm.
I need to change a cost or rate after activation. Email an updated template to your Stella Source Customer Support Rep. They'll reload it.
